Great Solutions to Problems in Extending Windows Volume

When a certain partition runs in low disk space, to extend it is the best choice if there is much unused space available on the same disk, but many users have met different kinds of problems in extending Windows volume. For instance, there is no such function in disk management utility; the “Extend Volume” feature is grayed out.

Under Windows OS which was released before Windows Vista, like Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003, users will fail to enlarge a Windows volume in disk management since this tool does not provide users with functions to expand a partition.

Under Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2012, and other recent Windows OS, “Extend Volume” feature has been added to increase volume space. But disappointingly, this function is limited by lots of factors, and problems in extending Windows volume will emerge in the following situations:
1.The volume they want to extend is formatted with FAT rather than NTFS.
2.There is no contiguous unallocated or free space on the right side of the partition which needs extending.
3.The contiguous space right behind the target primary partition is logical or the adjacent space right behind the target logical partition is unallocated.
4.The partition we want to extend saves system page files.

All disks and volumes are listed, so please select the volume which needs extending and choose “Extend Partition” feature from the left action panel to get the window below:



Then, expand the target volume by taking free space from one of other existing partitions or unallocated space on the same disk and drag sliding button to decide how much free space to take. Next, click “OK” to go back to the main interface:
